HOTFORM project “New multiphase AHSS steel grades for hot forming, with improved formability and reduced springback”, has been funded under the Research Fund for Coal and Steel European Programme, in the Steel Research area. The project is developed under the RFCS Technical Group TGS7 “Steel products and applications for automobiles, packaging and home appliances”.
The project started on the 1st of July, 2015 and will finish on the 31st of December, 2018.
As an alternative approach to cold forming of advanced high strength steel automobile components (made of dual phase, complex phase, TRIP, etc.), the main goal of HOTFORM project is to develop two new multiphase hot forming steel grades (dual phase and complex phase) together with their hot forming processes, to enable manufacturing complex geometry hot stamped automobile components and thus allowing efficient lightweight vehicle design. By using hot forming instead of cold forming, the well-known springback problem will be avoided and the press forming forces will be greatly reduced.
The project partners are TECNALIA, TATA STEEL, VOLKSWAGEN and CRF-FCA.
